The definition of history is the reflection and knowledge
of past events that have occurred and been recorded.
History can be studied as a subject and it is considered
to be a significant academic discipline of understanding
things that have occurred in the past. Historians - where
academic or mere enthusiasts study and document these
past events as accurately as possible so that others may
read and learn about them.
Preserving our heritage is a necessary task. Take our
family trees for instance; without recording documents of
birth or events could not allow us to trace our family's
lineage. Fortunately, we have Birth, Marriage and Death
Certificates recorded that will enable us to trace our
family tree. Military records, Immigration data and Census
Bureau records are also reliable sources of information.
Librarians can help us find newspaper articles printed in
the past. These articles can be an excellent source of
information also. Another source one might not think are
the older members of your family who lived at the time you
are researching. They would be able to tell you where to
go to find documentation on the subject.
Many events from the past are recorded in various
forms of written works and audio and visual
presentations. Many presentations rely heavily
on factual information, but some half-truths are
added to make the story or issue more sensational
or interesting to those exposed to the information.
In order for events to be recorded into history, they must
be considered a remarkable event, finding or fact. An
example would be the speeches of the American Presidents
and the events that surrounded them that has affected our
lives today. Documentaries have been recorded through
visual and audio resources so that we may see and hear the
Presidents of the United States.
Wars have become the most researched and analyzed events.
Nations fight to obtain certain rights and privileges. This
state of conflict can last for long periods of time. The
importance of these wars, the actual happenings during the
wars and the results that ensued have been recorded for
centuries past.
War is defined as a state of conflict, a contest and
battle that can last for a long period that is conducted
between states carried on by arms, fighting. America has
seen a great amount of struggle, and fighting in order
to obtain certain rights and privileges. Without these
struggles, our nation would not likely be as prosperous
and free. War is devastating. It destroys, lives, families,
landmarks, economic structures, finances, and degrees of
power.
The War between the States has been one of the most
intensely studied wars because it involved Americans
fighting Americans. Each war has influenced the
development of the United States. Some of the major
wars, most of which occurred in the 20th century, were
World War I and II, the Korean, and the Vietnam War.
The most important was the American Revolution
which allowed us to gain our independence.
