WHAT IS A RINGTONE

With cell phone use at an all-time high, people look for
creative and individual ways to distinguish their phones
ring from another persons phone. Because of this,
ringtones were developed, which are sounds made by the
phone for incoming calls or voicemail. These ringtones
are customizable and can be set for the type of call or the
actual caller. For instance, if you wanted to distinguish
your childs incoming call from friends, the ringtone would
be customized.
For the ringtone to work, a program is installed in the
phone. Different types of phones offer preset sounds. As
as example, you might get 10 installed ringtones for a
Nokia or Kyocera phone, 12 for a Siemens or Samsung, and
16 for a Sony or Motorola phone. Keep in mind that in
addition to the preinstalled ringtone offered by the phone
manufacturer, you could also download a ringtone from the
internet using the phone or directly from your computer.
The bottom line is that while functional, a ringtone is
fun. You will find people that have South Park, Rod
Stewart songs, The Simpsons, or any other type of ringtone
imaginable downloaded to the phone. Now, when you download
a ringtone, you pay. Depending on the ringtone and its
popularity, the price could be one dollar to several
dollars. After buying a ringtone, you would have a certain
number of days, usually 30, in which it would need to be
downloaded. Once the sound is on your phone, you can use
it how and when you want.
Today, owning and using a cell phone is fun and practical.
Although some types of ringtones are annoying and
distracting, most are enjoyable and intended for practical
use and fun. While a ringtone is important to the cell
phone user, helping him or her to identify incoming calls,
if misused, the ringtone can be a real public nuisance.
For instance, if you are in the movie theater, you will
see a quick message for everyone to turn their phones off.
Unfortunately, some people fail to do this and right in the
middle of the movies climax, you hear some obnoxious song
or noise. The same would be true in business meetings.
People often carry personal phones everywhere they go.
Forgetting about the South Park ringtone, they find
themselves embarrassed while trying to close a deal when
the phone rings.
Therefore, if you want to enjoy unique ringtones on your
phone you should but be aware of your surroundings and take
steps to turn the ringtone off when appropriate.
