When the economy isn't at its best, you should be prepared
to face the inevitable. However, that is not to suggest that
the economy isn't doing well, although it isn't at its
very best. In such an eventuality there are chances of lay
offs and the prospect of finding new jobs are not all that
bright. But, you can use this situation to make a career
change for the better.
A lot of finding a job is allowing employers to find you.
You want to send your resume to everyone that might need the
qualifications and experience that you have. Even if these
are not employers that might actively be searching for
people, you can show off your expertise to show that you are
needed in their company.
After sending the resume, you need to follow it up with a
phone call to the hiring department of the company. Make
sure that your resume has been received and try to seek an
appointment for an interview. Even if you don't'tsucceed in
getting an interview, you might get some valuable
information about what positions are available so that you
can talk to those departments directly.
Some aspirants make the effort to go to the companies in
person to set up appointments to talk to the head of the
department. It is no guarantee for getting a job there and
then, but if you manage to make a mark on the mind of the
department head you have a fair chance of being called when
they need to hire someone.
The most successful way of creating job opportunities is
through networking, which means talk to your friends and
relatives about your desire to find a new position. This
helps to widen your circle and even if they can't'tdirectly
help you get a job, they might be able to help you find
something that works for you.
Remember, your resume is a window to your personality. So,
try and make it as impressive and professional as you can.
It's'sa good idea to take the help of a professional resume
writer or software program, and print it on high grade
paper. It should be well worded, clean and readable, and
should present you in a positive light.
While losing your job may have been expected, you never want
to talk badly of your previous employers. In any future
communications with job prospects, bring up all of the
positive attributes of your prior jobs and only describe the
challenges that you overcame while being employed.
It is a full time job to find a job; it needs a great deal
of concentrated effort, atience and perseverance. If you are
sincere and consistent in your efforts, you will be able to
find someone who will be happy to employ you.
