Dishing Up Dog Health

A healthy dog is easy to recognize - lively eyes,
energetic, full of vitality, and a shiny, bright coat.
As a dog owner, you should understand the importance of
how to get your dog in a health state and how to keep
your pup in that condition.
The most basic way to keep your dog healthy is through
food. Every animal requires water and food to live.
We realize from a human standpoint the importance of a
healthy diet and how food affects our energy. These
conditions are important in a dog's diet too or else
they encounter malnutrition. Our much-loved dogs
require a diet full of vitamins, minerals and canine
nutrients for a proper diet. Since the majority of
today's top brand-name dog foods are complete with
these ingredients, this health requirement for our dogs
is easy to fulfill. Steer away from cheaper brands as
they often contain too much cornmeal and little
nutrition.
A dog can become obese from overeating, just like us
human beings. Obesity never happens in the wild since
an obese animal won't survive long or fend for itself
efficiently. Obese animals are only seen in
domesticated pets as a side effect of kind-hearted pet
owners who equate supplying plenty of food with being
caring. Unfortunately, overfeeding an animal shortens
an animal's life and puts them at risk for problems like
arthritis, respiratory difficulties, heart disease, and
diabetes. These overweight pets also are at greater
risk of dieing while under anesthesia during an
operation (which is also the case for obese persons).
Therefore, a more caring approach to feeding your pet is
following the correct serving portions of healthy food
for your dog.
The condition of a dog's fur, skin and stools need to be
addressed. Dogs can get ill from tics and fleas. Flea
collars aren't always good at keeping away these pests.
Instead, use a good powder or spray. Make sure to use
these correctly according to the instructions. If a
flea problem does arise, it's vital that you attend to
it right away. First, clean the spots that the dog
regularly lies around. Every time that you vacuum these
areas, immediately empty the vacuum bags. Also, wash
the dog's bed every time he lies in it. These steps
will prevent further outbreaks from the fleas and their
eggs nested in your home's carpet and fabrics.
A walk in the country can subject the dog's fur to piggy
backers such as tics. So check his fur after romps in
the woods. Also, check your canine's stools for signs
of worms. Some worms such as roundworms, whipworms,
hookworms and tapeworms that infest in a dog's
intestines can be seen with the naked eye in a dog's
stool. However, this isn't always the case so frequent
testing and following a worming schedule is necessary.
These few steps create a much healthier and happier dog.
Further steps like keeping veterinarian visits and
keeping your dog's vaccinations up to date also increase
your dog's health factor. By following these caring and
healthy steps, you are creating a fit and content dog
that is sure to live a much longer and healthier life.
