The job interview is your chance to sell yourself to your
prospective employer. It forms the most important aspect of
the application process. It gives the prospective employer
an opportunity to meet you and decide whether you possess
the skills and the personality required for the job. It
allows them to get to know you as a person a little bit
better, and to form an impression about who you are. Since
the impression is formed in about 30 seconds, it is
important that you properly prepare for your job interview
so that you have a better chance of getting the job.
In order to properly prepare for a job interview you need to
put in some work and take care of many things. If you are
well prepared you can make a good impression on the
prospective employer. Preparation does not mean that you
have to know all the answers, but it should reflect your
attitude. When you go adequately prepared for the interview
the employer thinks you care enough about getting the job.
Here are a few tips to prepare for a job interview.
Do some research. Know about the company so that you
understand the mission and purpose. Know with whom it is
you are being interviewed, and what he or she is in charge
of.
As you prepare to answer the questions, you must also think
of questions to ask your interviewer. Most interviewers ask
if you have questions. Think of some relevant questions
about the job or the company. This shows you have put in
some serious thought. Plus you can have your genuine
questions answered.
It is a good idea to carry a pad, pen or pencil, and a copy
of your resume when you go for the interview. This will help
you take down notes if the need arises, and it shows how
organized you are.
Arrive at least ten minutes before the appointed time. You
will get time to find your bearing in the new place and
create a good impression. If you arrive late for the
interview the prospective employer will get the impression
that you are irresponsible and have a habit of coming late
to work.
